Brought Plenty
Lakota
“Whenever one experiences trauma, the eyes are open, but the mouth is always shut. Taking everything in, but not being able to speak.” -Brought Plenty
Many eyes can be found within this piece. For the Lakota peoples, the turtle is representative of healing, protection, and safety. Brought Plenty represents herself in the middle of the turtle’s shell, its home. The mountains on the side of the turtle’s shell signify Paha Sapa, the Black Hills, also home and very much sacred. The salmon represents the body as it feeds and nourishes, it gives everything to sustain us.
